INTRODUCTION
Anger Management Central London and Anger Therapy London provide video-call online sessions for victims and perpetrators of domestic abuse with anger management issues. Traditionally, clients would see a therapist in person, but Anger Management Central London now offers video-call sessions. Read a transcript of a podcast with one of our clients about his experience of in-person and video-call sessions, he had the opportunity to try both. His voice and identity were changed for confidentiality reasons. He is over 60 years old and we will call him David. He also has dyslexia and that has also improved with his sessions.
Extract from the Podcast
THERAPIST: Would you like to share with our followers what it was like for you doing the sessions in person and then switch to video-call session.
CLIENT: Video-call online is much better I think because you are not as nervous.
THERAPIST: Oh interesting.
“Video-call sessions, I would recommend it big time, you are not as nervous but you need a good therapist who listens”
CLIENT: Yes you are not as nervous, If you are doing face-to-face as a client, you would be more nervous because you would with the person. I am more relaxed in my front room doing the sessions. Definitely yes.
THERAPIST: What did you feel nervous about the sessions in person?
CLIENT: Because you are face-to-face and you are with the person and there are lots of things you are not going to say as a client face–to-face than you are going to say online because you are more relaxed.
THERAPIST: Is there anything else you would like to add?
“In-person sessions take a lot of energy and expenses”
CLIENT: It was stressful when I had to come in for the face-to-face, it takes a lot of energy and expenses whether it would be by car or whether it would be another transport. This is because you are looking an hour each way. Its all very nice online, you can use your laptop or phone just go online for an hour, you can speak for an hour, you are more relaxed.
THERAPIST: What would you tell someone who had never done online video-call sessions and doesn’t believe in it?
CLIENT: I would recommend it big time. It does work when you get a good therapist, it means a lot too. If you meet a bad it wont work. If you meet therapist that goes deep into your problems, you are ok, you are lucky. And another thing you have to listen to the therapist what they are saying.
THERAPIST: Did you have a experience of bad therapist?
CLIENT: Yes I did. She didn’t listen to me. I didn’t feel comfortable talking to her. A good therapist, in your daily, you could listen to her and keeps you in the right mindset, you are progressing week by week and you look forward to seeing your therapist.
THERAPIST: Why do you look forward to it?
CLIENT: She (Leona Sears) listens, she will go over things, if you are upset, she will go into it, and it helps a lot and the fact that she listens makes all the difference. It feels worthwhile giving up the hour.
